Are you thinking about looking at your numbers? Are you thinking of taking the peak, peep, the plunge to actually figure your money? The, oh my gosh, I’m actually gonna look. Well you are in the right place and let me tell you, this is not going to be a terrible experience where you’re just going for hours and hours looking through papers. This is an experience of dream lining. This is an experience of saying, you know what, today I am ready! I am ready to take the leap and look at my business numbers.

Welcome to part 1 of a 4 part blog series all about money! This all stems from a The Business of Becoming podcast episode 95 where I gave Lori an overview of what we’re going to go through in more details in these blog posts, so be sure to give that a listen if you haven’t already.

The thing is, when you look at your numbers, you’re able to do so much more with your business. You’re able to make so much more money. You’re able to have a revenue goal that you can actually look at and say, I can do this! I can look at my packages. I can look at my pricing. I can look at all the things that go into a revenue goal and say, yes, I can make this happen. In this blog series, we’re going to be going through how to do that.

My name is Amber Dugger, I am the founder of Profit For Keeps, and I’m going to show you how to not only make amazing money but keep it. Watch the video below to get started, or if you prefer to read the transcript is below.

Defining Your Why

In this first part we’re going to be looking at why it is we’re in business for ourselves. Why is it that you started your business? Why is it that you’re here wanting to make money?

The thing is, if we locked ourselves up in a room and had a big pile of money but nowhere to go, we wouldn’t be able to use any of it. What we want to do is get really clear on why we want to make money. I have a few questions for you to start delving into this and starting to brainstorm.

In the next couple of videos, we’re going to look more into actually getting the numbers down on paper and then we’re finally going to get to a revenue goal that you can start using to hit those goals and actually make these things happen. Are you ready to get started? I’m super excited. This is my favorite part.

Determine How Much You Need

I can’t tell you how many people I meet that have awesome revenue goals, like six figures or 50K months, without having any idea what they actually want to do with that money. They don’t know what their current life costs or what a breakdown is of their dream life. It’s ok if you haven’t thought about this. There’s no judgment here. This is a safe space.

I ask these questions a lot because, without knowing exactly what you want to do with the money, it doesn’t easily come to you. Money is meant to be used. It’s meant to flow in and out. There’s a karmic cycle of money.

Questions to Ask Yourself

What would you do with the money coming into your business if you had no debt and you had six months of savings? Just take a moment and actually feel into that. I want you to close your eyes and just imagine that you have six months of savings in your bank account and you have no debt whatsoever. Money is flowing into your business and it’s covering your paychecks, it’s covering your expenses, and you have money leftover.

Now that you’re in that space, I want you to start thinking, what is it you would want to do with that additional revenue? It might be a trip around the world. It might be buying a house for your family. It might be finishing out your basement. It might be starting a school in Africa. There are so many different things that you can do with the proceeds that come into your business, but until you start to really visualize and feel into what it is, it will be a lot harder for you to get there. That’s the first question.

Once you’ve brainstormed for awhile and journaled your thoughts and feelings, the next question is, what is the impact that you want to have with your business? What is it that you want to be able to do with your business? We are amazing, talented entrepreneurs and they’re so much good that we can do when we have resources that come in. So what is the impact that you want to have? This is a two part question. Of course you want to know what you’re going to do, but also impact is directly tied to revenue. One of my favorite books, The Go Giver, explains this implicitly well. So if you haven’t gone and read that book, I highly recommend it.

The next question is,  what did you, or why did you go into business in the first place? What were you wanting? What type of freedom were you seeking or what type of freedom are you seeking? What does your ideal day look like? What kind of things are involved in that day? Are you getting massages weekly? Do you have a personal assistant? Do you have a home chef that comes in and prepares beautiful healthy meals? What does your day look like? What does your schedule look like? Are you working just in the mornings? Are you working only three days a week? Are you working all day, every day? What does your schedule look like? And, what are you wearing? What kind of fabrics are you wearing? What are you feeling when you wake up in the morning? Where are you living? Who are you spending the most time with on a regular basis?

Once you have a real, clear picture of what that would look like for you, I want you to take 10 minutes and dream line, based on the questions above, so that you have it all down on paper.

 Your Homework

As your homework for this series, I want you to commit to taking 10 minutes each morning for at least the next four weeks visualizing those goals and feeling into what it is like to live that life. Truly feel the feels. This is really important because as we start to feel into what we’re going towards, things and opportunities start to come our way. You are lying the most amazing foundation for you to set up a life and a business where money is starting to easily come into your business.

Here is a Summary of the Questions and Action Steps:

  • What would you do with the money coming in if you had no debt and you had 6 months of savings?
  • What is the impact that you want to have with your business?
  • Why did you go into business in the first place?  What were you wanting? What does your day look like?  What does your schedule look like? What are you wearing?  Where are you living? Who are you spending the most time with on a regular basis?
  • Take 10 minutes and dreamline based on the questions above.
  • Then commit to spending 10 minutes each morning for the next 4 weeks visualizing those goals and feeling into what it is like to live that life.  Truly feel the feels. 🙂

That’s it for now! But I really do want you to take some time to  journal, because in Part 2 we’re going to be talking all about actually writing everything down in your personal expenses and getting really clear how much you actually want to be paying yourself in your business on a monthly basis. And if you didn’t listen yet to Episode 95 of the Business of Becoming podcast, be sure to give that a listen too.
